I don't know if the MM would know what he's in it for if you asked him with truth serum! I think men can and do fall in love with women they have strong physical relationships with, whether prettier than the BW or not. Men get a lot of acceptance, validation and closeness from sexual intimacy. And they love that - I don't think it's the sex per se but the way the sex makes them feel wanted and loved and competent. A long term marriage that includes many years of sexual rejection can leave them feeling unloved and not good enough.

I saw my MMs BW once in the dark - she looked frantic and wildly angry (she'd followed us to my house and was yelling from her car to ours). I felt horrible. They were separated but she seemed so genuinely devastated to find him with me. It was sad.
